Gus and I met in submarine school in New London, CT in the fall of 1963 and hit it off as friends immediately. His impish humor and easy laugh followed us both to the same USS Cubera SS347 fleet diesel submarine in which we served together for over two years. He taught me how to start up a 16-cylinder diesel to pass my qualifications and earn my dolphins. Mary Ann, I know he loved you truly right from the start, and I'm so saddened by your loss.

My sincere condolences to the family of Gus Negus. Gus was my engineer for many years with the D&H/CP Rail. We road many "rails" together over the years. Gus was a great person. A pleasure to work with. He will missed by many people, especially his family. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

My sincerest sympathies to Gus's Family. We never worked together, but as a D&H Engineer, our paths did cross from time to time. He was the epitome of a "Gentleman". We last spoke regarding the USS Slater as my uncle served on a similar ship in WWII, the Eldridge, and he would visit the Slater at least once a year. May Brother Gus rest in peace. Ken Kertesz, D&H Engineer 1976-present, BLET Officer

I am so sorry to hear of Merrill's passing. I knew nothing about his illness, being out in California. Many memories of growing up together. May God comfort your entire family during this time and bring you His peace. I am so happy that I got to see you both at the Alplaus Kids' Reunion several years ago. God bless you Mary Ann and your family.
