Obituary of Charlene Crenshaw

Charlene L. Crenshaw, 80, of Riverview Rd., passed away peacefully on August 29, 2014, following a long illness. Born in St. Louis, MO on December 15, 1933, she was the daughter of Ralph Waldo Korando and Emma Elizabeth Heinrich Korando. Charlene graduated Cleveland High School and received her B.S. from the University of Missouri. She was married on June 8, 1957 to Melvin Crenshaw in Columbia, MO. She went on to receive her master's degree from Union College in Schenectady. Mrs. Crenshaw began her career at G.E. Plastics and worked for KAPL in the Nuclear Propulsion Division as a mechanical engineer. A primary expertise was her studies on the effect of corrosion where she had authored several papers that were published. Mrs. Crenshaw ended her career at MAO in Niskayuna. She was a member of the Elfun Society and G.E. Quarter Century Club. Her hobbies included sewing and gardening, but most importantly was her love for the outdoors. She and Melvin often hiked and camped in the Adirondacks and were avid canoeists and cross country skiers. Charlene insisted weekends were family time and loved to ride bikes together enjoying fresh air and the views of the northeast. In January of this year, Melvin L. Crenshaw passed. Survived by her two sons, Kenneth A. and Kevin M. Crenshaw, both of Rexford; three grandchildren, Matthew A., Benjamin J. and Olivia M. Crenshaw; her brother, Jerry Korando of St. Louis; and nieces, Nancy, Suzanne and Elizabeth. There will be no formal planned services at this time. A private memorial gathering will take place at the convenience of the family. Contributions are preferred in memory of Charlene L. Crenshaw to the Alzheimers Disease Research Organization, Pine West Plaza, Building 4, 405 Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY 12205.
