Obituary of Robert Downs

Robert Downs, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 18, 2014 at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Powers Downs. Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II and participated in the Normandy Landings. Bob retired from Freihofer Baking Company as a Supervisor after many dedicated years. Bob enjoyed working outdoors and was always there to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Linda Wagschall Downs, his son Kenneth Downs, and his siblings Alice Beauregard, Irene Wozniak , Helen Ward, Marion Scrafford, Frances Weiss, Theresa Amszynski, John Downs, Joseph Downs, David Downs. He is survived by his children Kelly Messitt and her husband Todd (Fort Montgomery, NY); Stephen Downs (Knox, NY); and Daniel Downs; his sister Jeanne Devino and her husband Tom (Malta, NY) and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Bob will be held Wednesday October 22, 2014 at 11am from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY. Relatives and friends may call prior to the service from 10 -11am.
