Obituary of Bernard Murphy

On November 28, 2014, Bernard Joseph Murphy, "Bernie", 83, of Glenville, passed away suddenly at home with family after sharing a joyous Thanksgiving dinner with his wife of 62 years. Born in Little Falls NY on March 23, 1931 he was the son of the late Patrick Francis and Mary Agnes Welch Murphy. He attended St. Mary's Academy in Little Falls and was a graduate of the College of St. Rose. Bernie received his Master's degree in Computer Science from Union College. He was married on January 10, 1953 in St. Mary's Church in Little Falls to the former Helen Lytwynec. He had an extensive career that included employment with Carrier, Syracuse, NY, Honeywell in Nashua, NH, G.E. Schenectady, Black and Decker in CT and G.E. Corporate in CT. Mr. Murphy retired from G.E. Corporate in Farfield, CT. Bernie warmed the hearts of everyone he met with his humor. His Irish eyes were always smiling. He was a man who believed in doing things the right way: none of his children ever learned to load the dishwasher up to his standards. He was a devoted husband and father with an indomitable spirit. He overcame every obstacle with optimism and courage. He had a laugh that you could never forget. Bernie was predeceased by his siblings: James, Margaret, Francis, Helen, Mary, Donald and Agnes. Surviving is his loving wife Helen Murphy. Bernie was an amazing father to nine children: Ellen M. Murphy of Meredith, NH, Donna Tessitore (Richard), of Glenville, Gary Murphy (Gail) of Snohomish, WA, Alia "Debra" Shah (Fuad) of Poughkeepsie, Carol Meyers (Thomas) of Sudbury, MA, Seanan Murphy (Sarah) of Arlington, MA, Patrick J. Murphy (Rene`) of Edison, NJ, Peter M. Murphy of Glenville and Marie K.M. Barr (Roger) of Los Angeles, CA. He leaves behind his brother, Thomas Murphy (Dorothy) of Little Falls, NY; 20 cherished grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren with a ninth on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, December 1st at 10 AM at the Church of the immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. East Glenville with Rev. Jerome Gingras officiating.
