Frederick Tietz

Obituary of Frederick Tietz

A navy veteran, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, Frederick (Fred) H. Tietz passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 22. Fred, who turned 80 years of age earlier this year, was born in Schenectady and lived in the area his entire life, moving to Ballston Spa 5 years ago. He was the beloved son of the late Frederick and Ella Peek Tietz. Fred was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-57 with a stint on the USS Albany. He worked in the General Electric carpentry shop and other parts of the plant for over 20 years, as building maintenance supervisor with Sunny view Hospital, and in various construction jobs. He was a jack of all trades and able to build or repair most anything. Fred was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Saratoga Springs) and VFW Post 358 in Ballston Spa. An avid outdoorsman, Fred loved to fish in Saratoga Lake, and spend summer days at the Great Sacandaga Lake with family, including his two furry "grandchildren" Izzie and Kieran, miniature spaniels belonging to his daughter Ruth. Fred also enjoyed watching football, baseball, auto racing and horse racing. Fred leaves behind his brother Robert Tietz (Lillian) of Rotterdam, daughter Ruth Tietz (Dan Heim) of Clifton Park, daughter Linda Salgado of Virginia, son Fred Tietz of Glens Falls, granddaughter Ammie Thach (Vinh) and great granddaughter Jocelynn of Front Royal, VA, and granddaughter Elizabeth Cruz of Woodbridge, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Fred was thrilled when he got to meet his one and only great granddaughter, Joci, this past summer. A celebration of Fred's life will be held on Friday, Dec. 26 at 3:30 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville. Calling hours will precede the service from 2 PM - 3:30 PM. Committal service with military honors will be held Monday, Dec. 29 at 11 AM at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY. Contributions may be made in Fred's memory to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 373 Crescent Ave., Saratoga Springs , NY 12866-8780 or online at www.foe.com.
