Obituary of Carmel Prystup

Carmel E. Prystup, nee: Fountain, 94, formerly of Fenwick Avenue, Schenectady, was given the gift of heaven, on December 27, 2014. Carmel passed away peacefully at her daughter and son-in-laws home with both at her side. She had resided with them the last six years where they stood by her and loved her until her life was done. Mrs. Prystup was born and educated in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Rose Fountain. In her youth, Carmel enjoyed working for the State and Proctor Theatres as a ticket cashier. After high school she worked at MICA Insulator Co. for nine years. Carmel held an executive secretary position at General Electric, retiring in 1984 after 33 years of service. She was a member of the G.E. Woman's Club, G.E. Women's Garden Club and St. Paul the Apostle Church Rosary Society.Mrs. Prystup was past president of the National Association of National Letter Carriers Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward Prystup whom she married on January 19, 1949. Carmel was also predeceased by her brother, Celos Fountain and sister, Cicele Nelson. Survivors include her loving daughter, Claudette Prystup Herzog and her son-in-law Richard Herzog, of Glenville, and sisters Annette Durrant, Rita Schaible and Lorraine Deere . Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 10 am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. Glenville, with Rev. Jerome Gingras officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the GLENVILLE Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Tuesday morning from 8am-9:30am. Interment will follow the mass at Memory's Garden, Colonie. Contributions in memory of Carmel Prystup may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue Scotia, NY 12302.
