Obituary of Joseph Homer

Joseph (Joe) J. Homer Jr. , 68, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2015 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peters. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Joseph J. Homer, Sr. and Rita McCarthy Homer. Joe married his wife Elizabeth (Betsey ) Salisbury on January 25, 1969. From 1968-1971, Joe proudly served his country as an active member of the Navy. He remained a part of the Naval Reserves for over twenty years. Joe also was a proud life-long member of the Thomas Corner Fire Department, where he served as a commissioner for the past fifteen years. He retired from Bechtel in Schenectady as a mechanical engineer. Joe loved to travel and especially loved to spend his summers in Rubacks Grove in Galway, NY. He enjoyed doing carpentry and playing hockey. However, Joe enjoyed nothing more than his family and his grandchildren. Joe is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Betsey) Homer, his daughter Mary E. (Stephen) DiAcetis of Duvall, Washington and his son John (Anke) Homer of Golden, Colorado. His surviving grandchildren are Katie and Olivia DiAcetis and Joey and Christopher Homer. He is also survived by his brother William (Sarah Jeanne) Homer of Lutz, Florida. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held Sunday January 11th, from 4 - 8 PM at the GLENVILLE FUENRAL HOME, 9 Glenridge Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 10 AM at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville. Committal service with military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY. A reception for family and friends will follow 3 - 7 pm at the Thomas Corner Fire Department, 5 Airport Rd., Glenville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's name may be made to Dr. Patrick A.
