Obituary of Donald Babcock

Donald Dwayne Babcock, 94, passed away at Ellis Hospital on Friday January 9, 2015. Donald was born in Sanborn, Iowa, the son of the late Hiram Frederick and Millie Elizabeth (Carpenter) Babcock . He graduated from Primghar High School in Iowa. In 1939, Donald moved to New York and subsequently worked for General Telephone in Johnstown and also as a woodsman in Bleeker, NY. He served in the US Navy from 1942-1945. In 1948, Donald married Marjory Young. Donald worked as an installation repairman for New York Telephone in Schenectady, which eventually became NYNEX and then Verizon, retiring in 1978. Donald enjoyed woodcarving and being Santa Claus for his grandchildren. Donald was predeceased by his siblings: Darrell, William, Prentice, Alberta, Bertha Babcock and Dorothy Babcock Goodbread. He is survived by his beloved wife Marjory; his devoted children: Scott (Roxanne) Babcock, Glenn Paul Babcock, and Claudia (Roy) Howard; his cherished grandchildren: Megan Keller (Patrick), Rachel and Rebecca Howard, and Christian (Bridgett) Babcock, as well as his cherished great grandchildren Henry and William Keller. The family of Donald would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Kingsway Manor and Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, as well as the staff of Ellis Hospital and Community Hospice, for the support, care and comfort given to him. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday January 14 from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. East Glenville. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday January 13 from 5 to 7 pm. Interment will be at 12:30 pm at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duel Rd, Schuylerville, NY. Memorial contributions in Donald's name may be made to either the City Mission of Schenectady 425 Hamilton St. Schenectady, NY 12305 or the East Glenville Community Church, 335 Saratoga Rd, Glenville NY 12302.
