Obituary of Lillian Fleres

Lillian Mary Fleres (nee: Martin), 87, of Rotterdam, died peacefully December 4, 2012 at Ellis Medicine surrounded by her loving family. Lillian was born on November 24, 1925 in Amsterdam, NY, the daughter of the late James and Angelina Mazzucco Martin. She went to St. Mary's High School and later graduated from Fordham University with a degree in chemistry. Lillian also attended Cornell University. Before her marriage to John S. Fleres on October 25, 1948 at St. Anthony's Church in Schenectady, she worked as a chemist at General Electric Co. John and Lillian built a home in Rotterdam where she has stayed ever since. John Fleres died in 1978. She worked alongside her husband at the popular Fleres' Seafood on Broadway and took over operations following his untimely passing. She closed the business in 1991. Lillian was employed by Filene's Department Store for twenty years. Lillian was an active member of Catholic Daughters of America, a member of the G.E. Women's Group and Schenectady Cooperative Extension in which she helped established a 4 H branch. When her children were young she was a Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader and was on the board of directors for Wonderland Nursery School. Lillian worked on the election board of Schenectady County for over 40 years. She always kept volunteering her time for those needing assistance. Lillian enjoyed baking and cooking in her spare time. She is survived by her loving daughter Lisa Fleres-Agrelo (Monte Schindler) of Rotterdam and son John Fleres of Charleston, NY; her brother, James Martin (Monica) of Scotia, NY and three cherished grandchildren: Angelina Agrelo, Arhianna and Marlana Fleres. Funeral services Monday (Dec. 10) at 9:15 am from Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM at St. Anthony's Church, 331 Seward Place with Rev. Dominic Isopo officiating. Calling hours will be held Sunday afternoon(Dec. 9) from 5 PM to 7 PM at Glenville Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Schenectady.
