Obituary of Rosaria Cannavo

Rosaria Nicita Cannavo, 85, passed away peacefully on January 8,2015 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Scifi, Sicily on August 15,1929 she was the daughter of the late Antonino and Giuseppa Nicita. She married her beloved late husband, Salvatore in 1947 in Sicily, Italy. Rosaria and her family moved to the United States in 1969. She was a long time member of St. Anthony's Church in Schenectady, as well as a member of the Madonna Libera. She had worked for many years as a housekeeper for Union College in Schenectady. Rosaria enjoyed many hobbies, including crocheting and tending to her gardens, especially her vegetables. She also loved to cook and very much enjoyed cooking cuisine from her native home of Italy. Rosaria will always be remembered as a hard working independent woman who was extremely family orientated. Rosaria loved all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren very dearly. Rosaria was predeceased by her husband Salvatore Cannavo who passed on January 7, 1995. She is survived by her beloved son Beniamino (Maria) Cannavo of Glenville and her beloved daughter Silvia (Allen) Yager of Schenectady. She is the beloved Nonna of Nancy Rose Melita, Filippo (Pamela) Melita, Rosa Marie Cannavo (Mark Madura), Salvatore (Jennifer) Cannavo and Bianca Cannavo. Beloved Great Nonna to Felicia Rose Melita , Sophia May Melita, Gabriella Sarina Melita and Ashley Faith Cannavo. Rosaria is also survived by her sister Venera Nicita of Sicily, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held Friday January 16th, from 5 - 8 PM at the GLENVILLE FUENRAL HOME, 9 Glenridge Rd. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 8:45AM from the Glenville Funeral home with A Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 806 Union Street, Schenectady. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy Schenectady Road, Niskayuna. The family would like to thank the entire staff of A-3, second floor ICU at Ellis Hospital for the wonderful care given to Rosaria.
