Obituary of George Mohr

George W. Mohr, 95, of Stonegate Drive, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2015 at his home. Born in Buffalo, NY on June 8, 1919, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Hoeltke) Mohr. George attended Emerson Vocational School and worked at Bell Aircraft and later for Curtis-Wright Aircraft in Buffalo where he worked on the P-40B Warhawk. He was a World War II veteran serving in the 4th Marine Division from 1944-46. He participated in the battle of Iwo Jima in February of 1945 and observed the raising of the U.S. flag on Mt. Suribachi. George was married on June 14, 1946 to the former Margaret Suraf. He was a true blue N.Y. Yankee fan who enjoyed watching the games including Yankee Classics on TV. George was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Buffalo. He enjoyed gardening including mowing his lawn and growing tomatoes to share with his neighbors and friends. During retirement he filled his time by "puttering" around his house. He was the original "Tool Man." Survivors include his son, Donald G. (Eileen) Mohr of Glenville and grandchildren: Kristin Mohr of Uxbridge, MA, Michael (Christine) Mohr of Hopedale, MA and Stephen Mohr. He is survived also by several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Rosemarie Coleman for the care given to George at the Broockdale Home in Ballston Lake. Relatives and friends will be received on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville. Funeral services will be held the following day at 1:00 PM at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Buffalo. Committal services at the chapel will conclude with Marine honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in George's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.org or to the VA Hospital in Buffalo, NY % of the Adult Day Care Program.
