Obituary of Mary Perrone

Mary Corbo Perrone, 90, longtime Scotia resident, passed away on, December 6, 2012, in the arms of her family, after a long illness. Born in 1922 to Italian immigrant parents Angelo and Angelina Troccoli Corbo, Mary attended Scotia-Glenville schools, graduating in 1940. She attended Mildred Elley Business School and graduated with a secretarial degree. She worked for the Schenectady Insurance Company and the Schenectady YMCA, before taking on her most beloved role as mother and homemaker to her four daughters. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Anthony J. Perrone, to whom she was married for 52 years. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Nick and Vito Corbo, and sisters, Josephine Guerra, and Rose and Carmela Corbo. She was the youngest in her family and the last of her siblings to pass away. Mary was a courageous, loving person with a most generous heart, unselfish spirit, and warm and caring personality. She excelled at "small talk" and at making people feel comfortable and welcome in her home and in her presence. Her dancing eyes would light up any room. She was an accomplished cook and baker and took pride in preparing favorite meals for her family or anyone who was lucky enough to join at her dinner table. She could clean her house faster than the legendary White Tornado and was an avid Yankee fan, watching each and every game at the edge of her seat. One of the many highlights of her life was when she was able to meet Derek Jeter and several team members when she accompanied her grandson to Yankee Stadium on a very special Make-a-Wish trip. Above all, Mary was a caring, kind and loving mother to her four daughters and a treasured friend to many who knew her. Her faith and strength of character were a testament to the way she lived her life. She especially loved children and had a special way with them, and babies were her special joy. Mary is survived by her four daughters, Carla Perrone (Joe Saneski) of Castleton, New York; and Cathy Dunleavy (Chris), Cindy Steadwell (Jim), and Christine Darby King (Bill King), all of Glenville. Mary or "G" as she was affectionately known, is also survived by nine grandchildren, Andrew and Dennis Saneski; Colleen Dunleavy; Lisa Swanson (Eric); Tara Alverson (Ryan); Ben and Katie Steadwell; Sarah and Bryan Darby; five great grandchildren, Nicole Pepper; Sierra Dunleavy; Cooper and Brady Swanson; and Eli Alverson; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass in celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday morning, December 11, at 9:30 am, at St. Joseph's Church in Scotia. Friends are invited to call at Glenville Funeral Home from 5 - 7 PM on Monday evening, December 10. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to: The Spina Bifida Association of Northeastern New York, 123 Saratoga Road, Scotia, New York 12302; or the Alzheimer's Association of NENY, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405 Albany, NY 12205; or Make-A-Wish, 1 Mustang Drive Cohoes, NY 12047. The family would like to sincerely thank Pam Mazzone, Mary's fifth "daughter," for her lively and loving companionship with Mary in the last few years of Mary's life. The family is very grateful to the staffs of Kingsway Manor Assisted Living Residence, Kingsway Memory Care Unit, and the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center for the loving and wonderful care given Mary while she was a resident. A bright light has been extinguished on earth only to become a twinkling star in heaven. We love you, Mother Mary!
