Obituary of Georgia MacFarland

Georgia C. MacFarland Glenville Georgia C. MacFarland, 93, of Glenville, passed away on January 14, 2015. She died at home with loving family at her side. Born in Evanston, Illinois on July 13, 1921 to Albert and Louise Crane, she attended and worked at Columbia University, where she met William, the love of her life, in the summer of 1948. They married in NYC on August 6, 1950, and, after living for a few years in Texas, made their home in the Schenectady area in April 1954. Georgia was primarily a homemaker, but also a college and state employee. She was a lifelong lover of music and studied and played both the piano and the recorder. As a self-taught master weaver, she was a member of The Mohawk Hudson Weavers Guild since 1978, and her handwoven clothing was sold throughout New York and Massachusetts. Georgia had a deep appreciation of nature and was a longtime member of The Nature Conservancy. She was predeceased by her brother, Harvey Crane and her sister, Mildred Woodward. Georgia is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, William; her son, James; her daughter, Wendy and her husband, Whitney; her daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Barry; her sister, Barbara; her grandson, Robbie and his wife, Zujeil; her grandson, John and his wife, Jane; and her grandson, Benjamin. The family gives special thanks to Joyce Simpson, Georgia's longtime caregiver. A memorial service and celebration of Georgia's life will be held on Saturday, January 31 at 3 p.m. at the Stanford United Methodist Church, 1569 State St. in Schenectady. Relatives and friends are welcome to arrive between 2 and 3 p.m., and a reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Nature Conservancy.
