Obituary of Robert Simmons

Robert W. Simmons Scotia Robert W. Simmons, 87, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, January 30, 2015 at Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center. Bob was born in Worcester, NY, the son of the late Ford and Henrietta Wright Simmons. He was a machinist at the General Electric Company in Schenectady. He retired to Florida with his wife, Mildred Weidman Simmons. Bob enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling. He was passionate for the game of golf, playing diligently year round his retirement years. A card player also, he enjoyed the game of Euchre. He dabbled in woodworking at home. He was of the Protestant faith. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Williams in 2013. Survivors are his beloved wife of 61 years, Mildred Simmons of Scotia; two daughters, Gail (Nick) Valentino of Scotia and Barbara (James) Keppler of Ballston Lake; his sister, Elizabeth Mostar of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Christene (Wes) Miller, Patricia Fogg, Jennifer (Nicholas) Bennice, Michelle (Dustin) Kennedy, Brian (Sarah) Keppler, Heather Smith, Christopher Simmons and Zachary Smith. Eighteen great-grandchildren; several nieces; and a nephew. A celebration of Robert's life will be held Wednesday (February 4) at 12 noon at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville. Relatives and friends are cordially invited and may call prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the spring near the Simmons plot at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions preferred to Cathoic Charities of Schenectady County or to Community Hospice of Schenectady.
