Obituary of Philip Scrivener
Philip Scrivener Rexford Philip Scrivener, 55, died unexpectedly at his home February 14, 2015. Born in York, England on October 14, 1959, he attended local schools where he received (soccer) exemptions for his talent in the sport. Phil played professionally with Grimsby Town in 1976 and had an extended career as a left wing and goal keeper for various England teams. He later retired from administrative coaching where he taught others the art of handling and maintaining high work ethics in coaching and motivation. Phil was united in marriage on June 4, 2011 to Amy E. Van Schaick of Rexford. The couple met via an internet courtship followed by Phil visiting the U.S. for the first time in 2010. He immediately was drawn to the countryside of upstate NY in which he termed the forest. Phil enjoyed gardening and landscape design. He learned carpentry, becoming a handyman on several projects at his home. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Barbara Scrivener. Survivors include his wife, Amy Scrivener; their daughter, Lilian Adele Scrivener; sons, Adam and Paul Scrivener; Jarred Paul and Primus Wilson Odom, Madison Elizabeth and Sydney Lin Odom. Phil leaves his brothers, Keith (Sue) Scrivener and Mark (Jackie) Scrivener; his father and mother-in-law, Paul and Linda Van Schaick; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Anita) Van Schaick and James (Julie) Van Schaick. Several nieces, nephews and cousins survive in England as well as the U.S.A. Memorial service will be held Friday (February 20), 11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 547 Saratoga Rd., Glenville with the Rev. Deron Milleville officiating. Relatives and friends are cordially invited and may also call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville.
