Obituary of Marjory Babcock

Marjory Young Babcock, 92, passed away peacefully March 27, 2015 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. Marjory resided on Ridge Road in Glenville for over 60 years prior to moving to Kingsway Manor. The daughter of the late Robert Henry and Elizabeth Walker Young, she was a 1941 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Marjory was an operator for New York Telephone in Schenectady for 9 years. Marjory married Donald Babcock in 1948 at State Street Presbyterian Church in Schenectady. She was a stay-at-home mom and kept active with various charities throughout her lifetime, including the Dorcas Society at East Glenville Community Church. She had a lifelong interest in sewing and especially enjoyed quiltmaking. In her younger years she was a member of the Schenectady Light Opera and was a member of the Ridgewood Swim Club in Glenville where she taught her children the fundamentals of swimming. Marjory looked forward to family trips to York Beach, Maine and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Marjory was predeceased in January by her beloved husband Donald and also by her brother Robert Henry Young Jr. and her sister Jean Elizabeth Griffen. Survivors include her brother, James Donald Young, her daughter, Claudia (Roy) Howard, two sons, Scott (Roxanne) Babcock and Glenn Babcock; four grandchildren: Megan (Patrick) Keller, Rachel Howard, Rebecca Howard and Christian (Bridget) Babcock as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Henry and William Keller. Marjory's family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Kingsway Manor and Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, for the support, care and comfort provided to her. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 3rd, 2015 at 11:30 AM in THE GLENVILLE FUNERAL HOME, 9 Glenridge Rd. with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Heckeler,officiating. Following, a committal service will be held at 2:00 PM at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery. Calling hours for family and friends will precede the service at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9:30 AM to 11:25 AM.Contributions may be made to Schenectady City Mission,425 Hamilton St. Schenectady 12305 or to East Glenville Community Church in Marjory's memory.
