Obituary of Marion Sisley

Marion D. "Mick" Sisley, 88, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2015, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y. Born in Alliance, Nebraska, he was the son of Charles E. and Sybil Sisley. After graduating from Alliance High School, Mick enlisted in the U.S. Navy (1944-46), serving on the USS Block Island. Following the service, he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, earning a bachelor's degree in architecture. Mick was a project architect with the firm Sargent, Webster, Crenshaw and Folley, working most notably on the Johnstown High School and Amsterdam City Hall building projects. Later he worked for General Electric, collaborating on the design of the Research and Development Center in Niskayuna, N.Y., and for the Golub Corporation's various projects. Following his retirement, he did consulting work for the Town of Colonie. He also served on the board of the Annie Schaffer Senior Center housing project. Mick enjoyed most sports, especially golf and softball, and was active in both into his 80s. When he wasn't participating he was avidly cheering on his favorite football team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Mick is survived by his wife, Adelaide "Del" Sisley, his children Todd (Christopher Trombley) Sisley and Heather Sisley. He is also survived by his grandson Grayson Sisley; sisters Judy (Charles) Haggard and Barbara Messersmith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, he leaves behind his canine companion Bonnie. He was predeceased by his brother Donald. A calling period will be held on Friday April 24, 2015, 10-11 a.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville, followed by a service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Private interment will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mick's name to the charity of one's choice.
