Obituary of Richard Woodward

Richard E. Woodward, 84, passed away on April 25, 2015, at Haven Hospice. Richard was born in Wellsville, OH, the son of the late George A. and Mildred M. Snyder Woodward. Richard graduated from Siena College in 1964. He moved to Rexford in 1960 and resided on Bradt Rd for 23 years until moving to Melbourne, FL. Richard worked for the NYS Audit and Control for 23 years until retiring in 1986. He formed the partnership Woodward & Crabbe in Ballston Spa and worked there as a C.P.A for three years until 1989. Richard was affiliated with the Niskayuna Youth Baseball for 20 years for which he was a prime force in building the Niskayuna Babe Ruth field that bears his name. He was also instrumental in helping to start the Schenectady Connie Mack League and the Clifton Park Girls Softball League. Richard was voted into the Schenectady Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986. He was a member of the Schenectady Baseball Old Timers Association, the Ballston Spa & Melbourne Fl. Elks, a member of the Melbourne Men's Golf Association, was active with square dancing associations in New York and Florida, as well as a parishioner of the Rexford United Methodist Church. His first wife Doris M. Woodward and his second wife Joan Woodward predeceased Richard. He is survived by his wife Nancy Bennett; his sons: Henry T. Woodward (Linda) of Littleton, CO and S. Douglas Woodward (Sue) of Colorado Springs CO; his daughter Jane Woodward (partner Kevin Sienka) of Ballston Lake; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren as well as step children and step grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Thursday April 30, 2015 at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville, NY. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 pm prior to the services. Entombment will follow in Memory's Garden, Watervliet Shaker Rd, Albany, NY.
