Obituary of Marlene Maguire

Marlene M. Maguire, 71, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2015 at Ellis Hospital. She was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. Daughter of the late Robert and Augusta Maguire, she was educated in NYC schools and Hunter College. At age 19, Marlene started working for The General Electric Company in Manhattan and remained employed with them until her retirement in 2000 after 38 years. In 1984 she transferred from GE NYC to GE in Schenectady and has lived in Glenville ever since. Marlene has been an avid New York Mets fan since their inception in 1962. She considered baseball season her summer vacation. During her early years in elementary school, Marly was considered the ultimate Tom Boy, playing equal to, if not frequently better than, the local boys in the neighborhood. Often times, when choosing up sides for stick ball or soft ball, she was considered the first selection for a team. Back in that day she was an avid New York Giants Baseball fan (Polo Grounds New York). She was a lifelong Lutheran. She is survived by a brother, Robert (Lillian) of Princeton, NJ; and a sister, Diane (Robert) Kelly of Glenville. She is also survived by her nieces, Marlene Kelly and Christine Dorsett; her nephews, Robert and John Maguire. Two great-nieces, two great-nephews and many cousins who she loved dearly. Calling hours for Marlene will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens, Watervliet Shaker Rd., Albany.
