Obituary of Albert Valente

Albert L. Valente, 86, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2015 at Ellis Hospital with his family by his side after a brief illness. Born in Oakland, California, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ida Valente. Albert moved to Schenectady at a young age and became a lifelong resident. He was educated at Nott Terrace High School. Albert served in the Army from 1946 to 1948 and was stationed in Korea. Albert married Joan, his wife of 58 years, on October 21, 1956 at St. Anthony's Church in Schenectady. He worked at General Electric in Schenectady for many years as a machinist, retiring in 1994. He was an active member of the local union, IUE 301 as well as a long time member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and golf. Throughout his life, he dabbled in the arts, including painting, woodworking and writing poetry. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Albert is survived by his beloved wife Joan Valente, his three loving daughters, Sharon A. Valente, Claudia M. Cannavo (Joseph) and Catherine M. Rotondi (Frank). He is also the cherished grandfather of Mark F. Rotondi. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, S. Robert Valente. Funeral services will take place on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 10:15am from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville, followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union St. Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Sunday May 10 from 5pm-8pm at the Glenville Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Troy Schenectady Rd. Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 The family would like to thank the staff of C-1 and C-6 at Ellis Hospital as well as Dr. Christopher Dibble and Dr. Brian McDonald for the exceptional care and compassion given to Albert and his loved ones.
