Obituary of George Rowlands

George K. Rowlands, 92, died peacefully May, 28, 2015 at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Utica, NY, on September 18, 1922, he was the son of the late George and Mary Jane Rowlands. After graduating from the Utica Free Academy, he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1940-1945, in the Pacific Region. On June 25, 1949, George married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Rowlands who passed on March 15, 2008. For two years, George was a commander of the American Legion post 1376 in New Hartford, New York and also served as part of the Color Guard. For many years he worked at the Special Metals Corporation in New Hartford, New York as a Foreman. In 1983, George and Mary retired to New Port Richey, Florida. George loved to be outdoors and enjoyed golf, tennis and boating. He especially loved his many summers spent on Oneida Lake. George was very active in his community including Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia.
He is survived by his son, Michael T. Rowlands (Kathy), of Ballston Spa;
daughters, Sheryl Stressel (Steven), of New Hartford, NY, and Lynne Rowlands-Gifford and her husband, Richard Gifford, of Malta, NY, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, George was predeceased by his sons, David K. Rowlands and Scott A. Rowlands, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Rowlands, and a sister Ruth Deuvall.
Military honors will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
