Obituary of Edwin Hicks

Dateline: Glenville Edwin Brayton Hicks, "Ed", of Glenville, NY passed away peacefully at his home on Friday September 4th at 84 years of age. Born in Granville, NY, Ed was the son of the late Edwin Brayton and Katherine Williams Hicks. He was a graduate of Granville High School and received his bachelor's degree from Union College in 1953. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and served on the Alumni Council from 1990 thru 2003. Ed was a veteran of the United States Army, honorably discharged in 1955 and he served in the Army Reserves for another six years. Upon returning from active duty, he worked for the New York Telephone Company in Albany, NY and then for a short time he sold insurance in New York. Ed began his career at General Electric in Schenectady in 1960, and in 1963 was transferred to the Manhattan office to work in the advertising and sales department of the steam turbine business. He returned to Schenectady in 1976 and retired in 1994. Ed and Doris (Pacyna) were united in marriage on April 19, 1958 and have lived at their current home in Glenville, NY for the last 39 years. Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman over his entire life, passing his love on the outdoors on to his family. Ed was a member of the Gooley Club in Newcomb, NY for nearly 40 years and served as the club president for ten years. He was also a charter member of the Smith Basin Club in Fort Anne, NY, and a longtime member of "The Doctor's Club" in North Blenheim, NY. Survivors include his beloved wife, Doris Hicks; three sons: Stephen (Sandra) Hicks of Scotia, Edwin (April) Hicks of Charlton and John (Linda Wells) Hicks of Rotterdam Junction; two daughters: Ellen (David) Meier of the Big Island of Hawaii and Judy Hicks of El Cerrito, CA. Ed is survived by his sister, Diane (Gary) MacConnell of Holden, MA and six grandchildren: Stephen and Michael Hicks, Christian Meier, Edwin Hicks; Shane Dunican and Madeleine Hicks, as well as several nieces and nephews and many close friends. Relatives and friends may call on the family on Thursday September 10th in the evening from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville, NY. There will be a Memorial Service at a later date followed by interment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Middle Granville, New York.
