Obituary of Mary Ann Burton

Mary Ann Burton, 86, passed away peacefully at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, NY on November 6, 2015. Born in Buffalo, NY on August 21, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Victoria (Olekszak) Kurek. She married Raymond (Burshtynsky) Burton on June 12, 1954 at St. Stanislaw Church in Buffalo, NY. In 1960 the family moved to Rochester, NY. Mary Ann enjoyed golfing, bus trips with her friends, finding a good bargain, and visits from her grandchildren. After Raymond’s death, she spent 5 years enjoying senior living at the Legacy Clover Blossom where she made more friends and enjoyed the many amenities offered there. Mary Ann had many lifetime friends that were very special to her. She also met monthly with The Mother’s Circle Group that began in 1962. Anyone who knew Mary Ann praised her knack with flowers, both growing them and arranging them. She was an officer for Iroquois Garden Club for many years where she also had numerous longtime friends. Mary Ann enjoyed wintering in New Smyrna Beach, FL for 15 years. She also fondly remembered the many vacations she took with Raymond, especially to Hawaii and Bermuda. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond on March 22, 2009. Survivors include her cherished daughters Dawn Burton of Clifton Park and Sue (Bob) Berres of Chilton, WI; four grandchildren: Jonah (Mandee) Berres, Rachel Berres, David (Yvonne) Berres, Bethany Berres; great-grandchildren: Tyler Jacobs, Sadie Berres, Kieran Berres, all of Wisconsin. Mary Ann is also survived by her beloved friend Paula VanderWerken and special niece Vicki (Bruce) Carlson of Mendon, NY. Special thanks to Dr. Richard Constantino, Jewish Home of Rochester rehab unit, Kingsway Arms Nursing Center Central Park unit, and hospice of Schenectady. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (Nov. 13) at 9 AM at St. Edward the Confessor Church (Clifton Park Center Rd.), Rev. Pat Butler officiating. A procession to Solomon National Cemetery will follow with committal and entombment scheduled for 11 am. Online condolences may be expressed at glenvillefuneralhome.com
