Obituary of Rowland Wayne Eckerson

Rowland Wayne Eckerson, 77, passed away at Ellis Hospital on November 6, 2015. Rowland was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Rowland and Leola Eckerson. He graduated from the Colonie School System and attended Gordon College in Massachusetts. Rowland joined the Army and served his country from 1956 to 1957. For over 30 years, Rowland worked for NYS including 4 years at the Rockefeller Drug Rehabilitation program as a counselor and for 21 years at the Department of Corrections, retiring in 1992. He loved his Lord And Savior and taught God's word in Sunday school and in home study groups to teenagers and adults. Rowland was a Deacon, and was very active in whichever church he was in, be it Poughkeepsie, Corinth, Schenectady or Duanesburg. He served the City Mission helping adults and children in Community out-reach. Rowland was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan; he also liked to work in his vegetable and flower gardens. Rowland is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Margaret; his daughter, Dawn (Richard) Behrens; his grandson, David; and granddaughters, Laura and Rachael. Funeral services on Friday, November 13th will begin at noon from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville, NY. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service.
