Obituary of Marjorie J Schmitt

Marjorie J. Schmitt (nee: Severyn), of East Glenville and most recently of the Glen Eddy in Niskayuna, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2015, following a short illness. Marjorie was born on April 8, 1918, in Schuyler, Nebraska. Her parents, Adolph and Pearl Severyn, moved their family to Lyman County in South Dakota in 1922 where she graduated from Vivian High School in 1935. She received her teaching certificate from Springfield College and taught in a one-room school house until 1942. Marjorie married Nikolas Schmitt in 1942, who served in the Amry during WWII. After living in Rapid City, SD and Pittsburg, PA while Nick earned his bachelor and master degrees they move their family to Schenectady in 1951 for Nick to work at GE in the turbine/generator divisions. Nick died in 1984. Marjorie moved to the Glen Eddy in 2005. She had a deep faith and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed emailing her extended family and longtime friends, including students who were now in their 80s! Marjorie also enjoyed playing Bridge, gardening, solving puzzles of all types, sewing, traveling extensively in the United States and Europe, listening to country music and rooting for the NY Mets. Marjorie looked forward to many visits of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marjorie was beloved by her daughters, Jeannine (Ronald) Dibb, Nickie Ann (John) Auger and Ruth (Robert) Willis. She had 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren who are all under 15 years of age. Marjorie was predeceased by her daughter, Teresa (Richard) Hull, in 2006; and her siblings, Louise Harris, Roger Severyn, Marilyn Pittman and Burke Severyn. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 21st at 9 a.m. at the Church of Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd., Glenville with the Reverend Jerry Gingras officiating. The family will receive callers on Friday, Nov. 20th at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Scotia-Glenville from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Entombment will follow mass on Saturday at Mother Cabrini Patio at St. Anthony's Cemetery Mausoleum, in Glenville.
