Obituary of Frank Edward Massey
Frank Edward Massey, 86, passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2015 with his loving family at his side.
Born in Utica, NY he was the son of the late
Frank and Theresa Salamone Massey. Frank moved to the Schenectady area when he was two years old and was a 1947 graduate of Nott Terrace High School.
He began
working for General Electric prior to being drafted in the Army. Frank proudly served his country from 1950 – 1952. After the service, Frank returned to work for General Electric. In 1961 he began working for the Postal Service and worked
his way through many positions there. In 1990, he retired, from his position as Post Master, after many dedicated years.
Following retirement, he worked for the
Scotia Middle School, which fulfilled his love for working with kids.
Frank married his beloved wife Marlene Zanetto on May 4, 1963 at St. Luke’s
Church in Schenectady. Together they raised a wonderful family.
Frank was a longtime member and past President of the Scotia Rotary and had 19
years of perfect attendance. He was also the former President of the Scotia-Glenville Booster Club, supporting all his children’s sporting activities.
Frank
was also a proud member of St. Joseph’s Church in Scotia. Frank had an immense love for the NY Giants, stretching back to 1947. His vast collection of memorabilia showed that his dedication to the team undeniable.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife Marlene, son Michael (Karen) Massey,
daughters Melissa (Kerry) McMahon and Melanie (Charles) Margeson. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Emily, Alexander and Gabriel Massey and
Jack and Carly Rae Margeson. Two nieces and many friends also survive. He was
predeceased by his sister Angela DeBarbieri.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Ellis Hospital especially the
emergency department, Critical Care and C1 and C5, as well as the Schenectady
Hospice for all the care given to Frank.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday November 24 (Today) from 6-8pm at the
Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated on Wednesday November 25 at 9:30am at St. Joseph’s Church, 231 2nd St, Scotia, NY 12302. Committal services with Military Honors will take place at 1:00pm on Wednesday November 25 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga
National Cemetery 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY. Those wishing to proceed to
the cemetery should meet at the Glenville Funeral Home by 11:45am.
