Lawrence Burroughs

Obituary of Lawrence E Burroughs

Lawrence E. Burroughs, "Buzzy", 82, of Glenville, passed away unexpectedly December 12, 2015. Born in Glenville on February 7, 1933, he was the son of the late Carlos and Laura Burroughs. Raised in Amsterdam, NY, he was proud of his schooling in a one-room schoolhouse until graduating from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He served in the Army from '53 to (SP) '55, then with the reserves until 1961. Larry married the former Carol Nou in Johnstown, NY on November 24, 1956. He was employed by the Buhrmaster Energy Group for 20 years. Larry enjoyed gardening with a passion for both flowers and vegetables. He planted many trees and shrubs over the years and learned the names and specifications for the different birds he attracted. Buzzy would rather trap the annoying creature trying to infiltrate his system of "garden protection" then harm them. Fishing with the "guys" over the years both in deep sea and freshwater streams, and then passing on his fishing tips to his beloved grandchildren was a pinnacle of Buzzy's life. He was always a METS fan since the team was established in the '60's. Grandpa always followed his grandchildren's sport and school endeavors. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Carol, his children, Stephen Burroughs (Gina), Carla Hastings (Lawrence) and Mary D'Amelia (Gerald); grandchildren: David Pogue, Andrew and Jessica D'Amelia, Nicholas Grover, Mitchell and Haleigh Burroughs. Larry leaves behind his brother, Richard Burroughs of Tribes Hill and Elizabeth Steiger, (Henry) of Amsterdam. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16th at 11 am at the Glenville Funeral Home of Scotia-Glenville with Rev. Margaret Currier officiating. There will be private visitation for family at their convenience. Burial at Gerald Solomon National Cemetery. Memorial donations are deeply appreciated to WoundedWarriorProject.org or to Thomas Corner's Fire Department (paramedics), 2 Airport Rd. Scotia, NY 12302. Online condolences GlenvilleFuneralHome.com
