Obituary of Laddie L. Stahl

Rexford - Major General Laddie L. Stahl, 93, of Rexford, NY passed away November 25, 2015 at the Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY. He will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Born December 23, 1921, in Terre Haute, IN, in May 1942 General Stahl was awarded a BSCE with highest distinction from Purdue University and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. During WWII, he fought with the 16th Armored Division in the Liberation of Czechoslovakia. After attending Command and General Staff School he returned to Germany and was assigned to 1st US Infantry Division as Battalion Commander, 32nd Field Artillery Battalion. Returning to the US in 1948, Stahl attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD and received a Master of Engineering Degree in 1950. In 1954, Lieutenant Colonel Stahl left active duty and joined the General Electric Company. He joined the 98th Infantry Division (Army Reserve) in 1955 and was assigned as Assistant Division Commander in 1960. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1961. In 1965 Stahl became the Commanding General, 98th Division and in 1966 was promoted to Major General. In 1966, Stahl was named a Distinguished Engineering Alumnus by Purdue University and in 1974 was inducted into the Purdue ROTC Hall of Fame. He retired from the Army Reserve in 1977 and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility. During his 35-year career with General Electric, Stahl held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility at the Research & Development Center culminating in managing the team who developed the Cat Scanner and Magnetic Resonance Imager. In 1990 Stahl retired from General Electric and joined Carnegie Mellon University as Director, Technology - Data Storage. Predeceased by his son, Laddie L. Stahl, Jr., General Stahl is survived by his wife, Thelma B. Stahl of Rexford, NY, his son, S. Craig Stahl of Renton, WA and his daughter, Stephanie L. Stahl of Denver, CO. Laddie was a good guy.  A good husband, a good father and a faithful friend.  We will miss him always.
