Obituary of Charles Donald Svehla

Charles D. Svehla “Chuck”. 87, formerly of Charlton, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on January 2, 2016. Born in Cleveland, OH on September 30, 1928, he graduated from John Adams High School’s class of ’46. Some of his fondest memories from his younger years came from the time he spent working on a farm with his friends. He was also one of few students who had a car at the time. The love of his young life was a 1929 Model A roadster. After graduating, Charles spent two years in the US Regular Army, and was discharged with rank of Sergeant. He went on to graduate from Case Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He joined G.E. in 1952 on the “Test Engineering Program” and had assignments in Cleveland, OH; Erie, PA; Syracuse, NY; Philadelphia, PA and in Schenectady. Charles married Lois Wiley on July 28, 1956. As avid outdoors people, he and Lois spent their time hiking, canoeing, and skiing throughout the Adirondacks, as well as many other parts of the United States. He loved his lakeside view at Pine Lake, where many memories were created. Mr. Svehla went on to graduate from Union College with a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for G.E. for 42 years as an Electrical Engineer and Manager of plant engineering. Professionally, he was a member of the ELFUN Society. Chuck leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Lois Svehla, two sons, Mark E. Svehla, his wife Lorrie and children Ashley and Tyler of Cropseyville, NY and Karl D. Svehla and his wife Xia- Kun of Florida and his daughter, Lisa M. Zywot and children Robin and Justin of Niskayuna. He is also survived by numerous family throughout the U.S. There is no doubt he will be missed.
