Obituary of Jerry Pospisil

Schenectady---Jerry Pospisil, 90, died January 13 2016, at home surrounded by friends and family. Born in New York City on September 5, 1925. He was the son of Jerry Pospisil and Anna Cikan Pospisil, and married to Elaine Dosser Pospisil. Jerry served in the Army's 66th Infantry Black Panther division in WWII. He survived the torpedo attack and sinking of the troopship Leopoldville in the English Channel on December 24,1944. He was awarded the Bronze Star, and the Combat Infantry Badge among other awards from both the U.S and France. Jerry was a self-made man growing up on New York's upper east side in Yorkville, where he met his wife, Elaine at the Madison Ave Presbyterian Church. He was an avid skier, and sailor who taught himself to build boats and fix cars. He spent many summers in Liberty, NY at the family farm in the Catskills. Together with his parents and his wife, he designed and built their first home in Lake Delta NY. He retired after 25 years from GE, as a Contract Manager at Knolls Atomic Laboratory and also worked at Griffith Air Force Base in Rome, NY and General Dynamics in Rochester, NY. After retiring from GE, he founded Astrotech, an early start-up tech company that was in the forefront at that time. His passion was sailing his Catalina 22 sailboat on Lake George and spending time in Bolton Landing. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine, of 65 yrs who cared for him during the past six years after he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma; daughter Claire Pospisil (Kirk Cornwell) of Albany, NY; son Paul (Margaret Glendening)and granddaughter Fiona of Albany, California; and brother, Joseph (Lola)of Nutley, NJ; nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to call on January 19th from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd Glenville, NY. Burial will be at the Saratoga National Cemetery January 20th, at 12:30 PM.
