Obituary of Charles J. Folk

Charles J. Folk, 74, passed away January 30, 2016 at Albany Medical Center following a short illness. Born on Coney Island, NY on September 18, 1941, he came from a family with 14 children. Charles was the beloved son of Frank and Mary Ellen (McCauley) Folk. Following high school he joined the Army, serving proudly from 1959-65. Charles married the former Mildred Potts in Brooklyn on March 16, 1962. They began a family before moving to Scotia in 1973. Charles worked with the U.S. Postal Service for 16 years, retiring in 1999. He promptly volunteered his time at the Stratton VA Hospital for many years. Always a family man Charles was supportive of his son’s athletics, where he became a baseball coach. He enjoyed gardening and watching the Yankees from a comfortable television seat in his own home. His wife Millie passed away on February 12, 2006. Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by 13 siblings. Survivors include his loving children; sons, Charles J. "Chip" Folk Jr. and his wife Donna, Christopher J. Folk and two daughters, Danielle Folk and Doreen Addington and her husband, Kevin Addington, all of whom are from Scotia. Charles leaves behind his sister, Margaret Nanfra of Spring Hill, FL and cherished grandchildren Kyle (Stephanie) folk, Thomas (Jessica) Folk. Kayla Addington, Jesse Addington and Riley Folk and great-grandson, Remington Alexander Folk. Charles is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 3, at 9 AM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Scotia with Deacon John Crane officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday (February 2) from 6-8pm. The family asks contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302. Military honors for Mr. Folk will be conducted Wednesday at 11 AM at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY under the direction of the Glenville Funeral Home.
