Obituary of Frances (Romano) Speck

Frances Speck (Romano), 92, of Jennifer Rd. died on January 31, 2016 at Glendale Nursing Home. Born in Fontechiari, Province of Frosinone, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Domenica (Longo) and Luigi Romano. Frances moved to the United States at the age of 6 in 1930. She attended local public schools and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. Following graduation, she was a secretary with the U.S. Army/ Air Force in Material Command. Following WWII, she was employed by General Electric Broadcasting Stations WGY-WRGB in the sales department. Frances left in 1963 to become a full time homemaker and raise her family. She married her husband, Robert Speck, on October 24, 1959, after meeting on a tour of Europe. They were members of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville. In 1973, Frances re-entered the labor market as a bookkeeper for the Schenectady County Community College Faculty/Student Association and the Student Government, retiring in 1986. For many years Frances volunteered at Proctor’s and the St. Clare’s hospital Gift Shop. She was a member of the WGY-WRGB Retiree’s Association, Omega Psi Sorority and the Scotia Glenville Senior Center. Frances enjoyed bowling, traveling, creating many types of crafts, as well as watercolor painting. Frances was predeceased by her husband Robert G. Speck and her brother Vito Romano. She is lovingly survived by her son Brian S. (Ann) Speck and their daughter, Alexis of Cary, NC and her sisters, Laura Disco (Wallace), Gloria Riggi (Anthony) and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 4, at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. Glenville with Reverend Richard A. Carlino officiating. Before Mass, the family will hold a calling period beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenridge Rd. in Glenville. Her request was that contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 1 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38105.
