Obituary of Joseph Cintula

Joseph A. Cintula, 89, of Saratoga Road, Glenville, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2016, surrounded by his family after a long illness. Born in Schenectady in 1926, he was a son of the late Anton and Karolina Sekac Cintula. Joseph was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. He served his country as a US Navy Seabee from 1944 through 1946. During his service in the Pacific he was commended with the Naval Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Naval Unit Commendation Ribbon. Until his retirement in 1989, he was employed as an equipment maintenance technician at A T & T Communication for 39 years. Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family. He was known to be big hearted and loved by all. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, listening to polish music, attending polish festivals and polka dancing. He held membership with the Slovak Catholic Sokol, the Communication Workers of America and the Pioneer’s - Adirondack Empire Chapter #58. He volunteered and socialized with the Veterans of World War II, the Seabees Veterans of America - Island X-10, the Polish American Veterans, the American Legion Post 1005 and the Veterans of Foreign War #357. Joseph was a former communicant O.L. of Mount Carmel Church. He also belonged to Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary (Tatowicz) Cintula, whom he married on October 13,1951; two beloved daughters and son in laws, Laura and Bob Reed of Glenville and Marianne and John Green of Newburyport MA; four grandchildren, Colleen and Ian Reed of Glenville, Sean Green of Santa Clara CA and Elizabeth Green of Newburyport MA; sister in laws Irene Borysiewicz of Sarasota FL, Marian Cintula of Glenville and Marlene Cintula of Rotterdam; brother in law Henry Tatowicz of Brooklyn NY and many nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his brothers John, Steven and Anthony; a sister, Caroline Fretto; a sister in law Helen Sefcovic; brother in laws Edward Broysiewicz of Sarasota FL, Casimir Tatowicz of El Paso TX and Edward Tatowicz of Ancorage AK Please celebrate Joe's life with his family on Wednesday February 10, 2016 (come for all or come for part of the day). Calling hours at Glenville Funeral Home, Glenridge Road, Glenville, will be between 8:30 and 9:45 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. Glenville. Interment with Navy military honors bestowed will be at St. Cyril's Cemetery, Duanesburg Road, Rotterdam. A luncheon will follow at 12:30 pm. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the Capital Living Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. The kindness, guidance and passionate care provided by their supervising nursing staff, Carlo, and Carlo’s staff on Maple unit provided comfort to Joe and his family. A special thank you to Dr. Hand and the staff of Unit C 2 at Albany Medical Center for the gold standard of care provided to Joe during his December stay with them.
