Obituary of Paul Dobbins

Paul J. Dobbins passed away on January 9, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 28, 1924 in Martins Ferry, Ohio the son of Paul J. Dobbins Sr. and Selma M. McSords Dobbins. He is survived by his wife of 64 1/2 years, Verna Marie Hanke Dobbins, daughter, Dr. Ann M. Dagianis and her husband, Dr. John J. Dagianis of Hollis, NH, daughter Paula J. Ourso, husband Kenneth P. Ourso of Mandeville, LA and son, John C. Dobbins, wife Joan Holzweiss Dobbins of Southington, CT. His grandchildren are: Matthew Dagianis, Christine Dagianis, of NH, Joshua Ourso, Kellie Ourso and Sharon Ourso of Louisianna and Kathryn Dobbins of Connecticut. Paul graduated from Martins Ferry H.S., attended Lindsley Institute and graduated from Ohio University with a B.S.E.E. It was at Ohio University where he met his wife, Verna. They were married on July 14, 1948 at St. Anthony's Church in Bridgeport, Ohio. Paul was a veteran of the 83rd Infantry Division and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star as well as four Bronze Stars with Victory Medal. He received a Unit Presidential Citation at Ham Germany. Paul worked for the General Electric Company in Fort Wayne, IN, Erie Pennsylvania, Lynn Massachusetts and Schenectady, NY. Paul was a member of the G.E. Elfin Society and Quarter Century Club. He wrote textbook chapters on induction and D.C. motors for McGraw Hill. He published many articles in trade magazines on motor applications. Paul and Verna danced with many square and round dance clubs including the Merry Mixers, Foot and Fiddle, Hicks and Chicks and the camping/dancing club, the Rolling Squares. They traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe with the W.B.C.C.I., enjoying all places. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 12 at 9 AM at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Glenville with Rev. Jerry Gingras officiating. Calling hours Friday evening 6-8 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home,9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville. Interment with full military honors bestowed at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia will be under the direction of Michael DeMarco and staff of Glenville Funeral Home- Scotia-Glenville, NY. Memorial contributions in Paul's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
