A thank you to Jennie Pennington for being the person she was, an inspiration, a mentor, and a friend. I knew her only in school, she seemed to follow my class, (1980), or maybe we followed her, from english teacher in the Jr. High thru asst principal in the Sr. High, her career moving forward with each year of our education and growth. I think she was always very close with our class members because of our year to year progressive link thru BHBL. She was a blessing for us all. It was trully wonderful that she reached out to so many on facebook as her days neared end. Though she did friend me, i did not have the opportunity to connect with her before she passed, at the time i was un aware of the devastating illness that would claim her shortly. Again i thank her for being herself.

Family & Friends
We were so very sorry to learn of Jennie's death - over the past years, Pat & I had many occasions to be in contact with Jennie, primarily during her tenure as BH-BL High School Principal - mine were associated primary with the various non-scholastic youth athletic programs in the area and Pat with Junior Achievement activities - in every instance, Jennie never failed to provide professional, cordial responses and assistance for items under her authority - I can also relate that my late wife (Judy Allen) was always laudatory of her contacts with Jennie with regard to her position as the BH-BL Cheerleader Advisor/Coach for several years - having recently re-established our relationship during the BH-BL CSD Centennial celebration events, Pat and I greatly regret our loss of being in contact with her in the future
Please accept our sincere sympathies at this difficult time

I'm sure our family joins many more in the community in remembering a lady who had a positive influence on all of us. Our three children passed through BH-BL halls under her direction and I was a substitute teacher. We all got any support we needed and a ready smile at all times. We will miss her and know that her family can take comfort in knowing the profound, positive effect she had on so many people. God speed, Jennie.

It was a pleasure to get to know Jennie, she was a true Burnt Hills legend who epitomized what it meant to be a Spartan. I wish we would have had the opportunity to work together for a longer period of time. God Bless You, and Rest in Peace.

Dear Pennington family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Though I was the only one of the four Smrstik children who did not attend BH-BL, I certainly knew Jennie's reputation and had the pleasure of meeting her a couple times on my visits to the area.
Most of all, I know that Jennie was a confidante and support to my mom, Helen, during her coming to terms with cancer over the past half year. Without Jennie's recommendations and sharing of experience and resources, my mom might never have found her way to the doctors who finally correctly diagnosed her illness.
I am sure that Helen is now happy to see Jennie and welcome her to the eternal book club...
My husband, son and I wish you all strength and peace.

Over 27 years ago my oldest son entered BH-BL High School and the history of our paths crossing began. I have had the privilege and fortune to know Jennie in many capacities over time: as the effective educational leader of a high school that provided excellence in education; as a trusted colleague and professional resource for principals in the area; as a staunch advocate for credit unions and resource for all of us who serve as credit union directors in the capital district; most recently as a co-worker at SAANYS serving the educational leaders of NY; and, ultimately and most importantly, as a friend.
No matter what the role, Jennie approached each with dedication, energy, wisdom, wit, and common sense. She was frequently the smartest person in the room but never attempted to convince you of that, Her leadership was the most effective form - by example.
Despite Jennie's many interests and activities, it was always clear that her love of family and their importance in her life was what kept Jennie most grounded.
My sincere condolences to Jim and the rest of your family. Due to a family obligation out of state, I cannot be there in person on Sunday night. My thoughts, though, will be with you. Take care of each other and do your best to celebrate the wonderful life you have all had together. While Jennie will be missed by all of us, she won't be forgotten.
We are all blessed to have had her in our lives.

I was a student at BHBL when Mrs. Pennington served in her two vice principal roles. My younger siblings were there when she received her promotion to high school principal. Those were very challenging times at the school. Her passion and professionalism really made a huge difference in helping the students, parents and staff through their shock, sadness, and anger. I remember her fights to shutdown the underage alcohol sales in the nearby convenience stores. It was a clear message that she was a leader not just in the high school building, but the community as a whole. She clearly made a huge impact on the school, her students and the entire Burnt Hills community.

Dear Pennington Family,
I knew Mrs. Pennington throughout my years at BH-BL (Class of '82) and a day didn't pass that someone didn't have a positive interaction with "Jennie"..she was a force to behold. She had a very sincere, compassionate, encouraging manner which enabled a willingness in students to "obey" or create, whichever the case may be. My sisters and I still have our moments when we reflect on our school days..and it usually ends with one of our favorite Mrs. Pennington quotes, accent and all. She will be forever held in our hearts. My sincerest condolences,
Fondly,
Suzie Casazza

To Jim and Members of Jennie's Family:
I had the privilege of working with Jennie over the past few years as she worked with administrators in school districts that I covered in SAANYS Region 6. No one was more dedicated to helping her fellow administrators than Jennie. She was bright, articulate, and as knowledgeable about working administrators' needs as anyone with whom I have ever worked. Her counsel was valued by everyone. She will be greatly missed.
My sincere condolences to you as you journey through the grieving process.
Best Wishes,
Gene Gordon

Jennie was a person that anyone could feel good to have as a friend. When Avery(my brother) lived back where Jennie was living, he would talk about all the good times that he and Robin had. It is sad to see people you grew up with leaving earth and going to heaven. She will be missed, but not forgotten.

I will always remember how Mrs. Pennington stood out as an educator who made an effort to get to know her students. She supported BH-BL athletics and many other extracurricular activities, and to this day I remember her as caring and fun, but stern when she needed to be. I believe I was "zapped" with detention a few times, and I'm sure it was well deserved. I hope her family understands how important she has been in the lives of a lot of young people, and I hope that brings you comfort in your time of loss.

My deepest condolences. Mrs Pennington was my unit head in Jr high. I have fond memories of her. I sat in front of her of course in trouble for something and at the same time she was giving me a lecture, she had her way of making me feel good about myself. She was already principal when my children went to school and they also have great memories of her. Rest in peace Mrs Pennington. I love you.

What do you say about one of the earliest influential women you can remember? Mrs. Pennington truely cared for her students and our school. I recently reconnected with her on Facebook and I was able to thank her for her early guidance. BHBL should rename a school or athletic field in her honor. If nothing else I sure hope they team up and form a scholarship program in her honor. God Bless you Mrs. Pennington.......from this girl in 7-7, thank you and fly free.
