Obituary of Doris Eleanor Denton

Doris Eleanor (Rolfe) Denton went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, March 17, 2016, just six days short of her 90th birthday after a long illness. Doris grew up in Schenectady, moving to Glenville in 1961. She spending her entire lifetime building memories of wonderful times at the family camp that her father built on Galway Lake. She enjoyed sewing her own clothes, arranging flowers, playing the piano and the organ and working in the nursery and cradle roll department of Stanford Methodist Church. She loved to ski and spent much time roller-skating at the Paradise Roller Skating Rink in Schenectady. Known as ‘Skip’ to her friends and acquaintances at the rink she gave roller-skating lessons to children and was also Editor and Chief of the rink’s newspaper, “The Roller Rambler”, which she sent monthly to over 200 servicemen around the world during WWII. She regularly sent words of encouragement to each and received hundreds of letters from these men who fought for our freedom. Doris was involved in helping to sell war bonds and she also constructed an Honor Roll at the roller-skating rink with the names of those who served and their branch of service. She met her husband, Lewis Denton, during her roller-skating years and was married to him for 65 years before his death in 2013. She belonged to the East Glenville Fire Department Auxiliary for 32 years helping to serve the firemen and was a trustee of the auxiliary for several years. Doris was also an emergency phone dispatcher for the Fire Department for seven years. She taught a Bible study in her home for eighteen years. Doris along with her husband, Lewis, began the “Pairs and Spares” senior group at East Glenville Community Church which they lead for twenty years. Later on she and her husband became members of Saratoga Chapel where she loved serving her Lord. The family would especially like to thank all of the staff at the Glendale Nursing Home who so compassionately cared for Doris for seven years. In addition we would also like to thank the Hospice staff for their love and support. She is predeceased by her husband Lewis Denton, and her parents, Charles and Ethel Rolfe. Survivors include her daughter, Janet (David)Kautzmann of Glenville, three grandchildren Steve (Kristy)Kautzmann of Lake Stevens Washington, Rebekah (Chris) Mancuso of Glenville, and Timothy (Laurel) Kautzmann of Wormleysburg PA, six great-grandchildren William Kautzmann, Abigail Mancuso, Zebediah Mancuso, TJ Kautzmann, Gabriel Kautzmann and Alethia Kautzmann and several cousins.
