Obituary of Genevieve G. Gatta

Genevieve G. Gatta, 92, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Naugatuck, CT on October 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Stanislaw and Maria Grzyboski. Genevieve graduated from Wilby High School in 1941. She was employed by Research and Development Center in Schenectady and later left the work place to raise a family. She married Carmen A. Gatta on July 22, 1951. Genevieve was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia and past president of the Rosary Society. She was a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and listening to the birds singing so beautifully while she sat on her deck. Genevieve was predeceased by her sister, Hedwig Dombroski and brothers, Charles Wendoloski and Thomas Gray. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Carmen Gatta; her children: Regina (Kenneth) Barnes of Ballston Spa, Carmen (Jeanne) Gatta of Suffern, Marlene Gatta, Joseph M. (Lisa) Gatta and Stanley Gatta of Scotia and Mary (Rick) Metzger of Rome, NY; her 17 loving grandchildren and 12 cherished great grandchildren. She leaves behind her sisters, Henrietta Grey of W. Glenville and Stella Swarczewski of Broadalbin, NY; and many loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Wednesday, March 23rd at 1 PM in St. Joseph's Church, Second St. Scotia. Relatives and friends are cordially invited and may also call at the church Wednesday from 12noon to 1 pm. A funeral procession will follow the mass to St. Joseph's Cemetery, Kings Rd. Schenectady.
