Obituary of Edward O Staalesen

Edward O. Staalesen, 73, of Mayfield, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, after a long illness. Born in Lista, Norway on June 22, 1942, he was the son of the late Oskar and Esther (Palm) Staalesen. The family emigrated to the U.S. in 1955. Ed once worked as a tugboat captain for the Esso Corporation out of New York City Harbor and was a licensed captain for all the inland waters of the U.S. He was united in marriage on June 29, 1969 in Huntington, L.I. to the former Bjorg Ranneklev. The couple met at a Sons of Norway picnic outing. The Stalessen family then moved to Clifton Park and later Charlton, NY where Ed was a building contractor and part owner of Pace Development Company in Clifton Park. Ed was a NASCAR enthusiast throughout his life and enjoyed drag racing in his younger years. He was an avid downhill skier, enjoying the outdoors tremendously. He took advantage of camping and boating with his family any time he could. He attended West Charlton Presbyterian Church. Ed was predeceased by his brother John Staalesen. Survivors include his beloved wife "Barbara" Stalessen, his children: sons, Eric (Rose) Staalesen, Gary and Robert Staalesen and daughter, Kerry (Philip) Roth; grandchildren; Heidi and Hannah Roth and Kyle and Cassidy Staalesen. He leaves behind his brother Norman Staalesen and sister Reidun (Egil) Aasan and sister-in-law Judy Staalesen. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and dear friend Gail Shields (late Ronald). Funeral services Saturday, April 16th at 4 pm in Faith Baptist Church, Glenridge Rd. Rexford with Rev. Robert Port officiating. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and may also call Friday 6-8 pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. East Glenville.
