Obituary of Paul Burton Briscoe
Paul Burton Briscoe passed away peacefully at his Scotia home on May 5, 2016, blessed with the loving care and comfort of his family. Born to Clark B. Briscoe and Olla Clark Briscoe on February 11, 1920, he spent much of his life in Rotterdam where he raised his family.
Paul retired from the GE after 40 years. During WWII he proudly served in the US Navy’s commissioning crew of the USS Bennington (aircraft carrier) in the Pacific theatre. An outstanding Draper athlete, he later played both semi and pro baseball and was an active officer and participant in the Schenectady Bowlers’ Association.
In 1997 Paul and his wife, Katherine, moved to Florida where he shared his WWII experiences with local elementary school students in the Adopt-a-Vet program. His 2013 Honor Flight to Washington DC’s WWII Memorial as one of the Greatest Generation’s revered veterans was truly unforgettable. Together, he and Kay enjoyed an active retirement where golf became a passion he was able to enjoy for the rest of his life.
Paul is survived by his wife of 74 years, Katherine Marnell Briscoe; daughters Corinne J. Tarana (Peter), Marcia K. Davis (Philip), Nadine B. Underhill (William) and brother Richard E. Briscoe (Phyllis). He was beloved PopPop to Noelle Tarana (Sean McNellis), Paul D. Davis (deceased), Robin K. Tarana, Jody L. Sitors
(Richard), Ryan K. Curry (Kathryn), Daryn J. Curry (Nicole), and Ethan J. Underhill. He will be dearly missed by nine great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends.
