Obituary of Gail Comanzo

Gail Sims Comanzo, Niskayuna, the wife of Ralph N. Comanzo for 53 glorious years passed away after a short illness at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family on January 14, 2013. Gail was predeceased by her parents Eugene and Margaret Sims and her son Richard "Dick" Comanzo. Gail is survived by her brother Dick Sims, Dunedin, Florida: Sister Beth Alford, Shelbyville, Tennessee She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Michael) Jones Newnan Georgia., Amy Gail Comanzo, Altamont, N.Y. and her son, Douglas (Amy), Rochester N.Y. and by her son, Richard. She had 6 grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew and Timothy Comanzo, Rochester, N.Y, Dean Comanzo, Sewell, N.J. and Daniel and Katie Jones, Newnan Georgia. Gail graduated from Nott Terrace High School Class of "57" and Green Mountain College, Poultney Vt. She worked at the Carl Company while in high school and after college worked at the General Electric Company. She was married to Ralph on October 17, 1959 at St. Helens Church and continued as a mother and office manager to the family business, Walkers Pharmacy Inc. Gail also ventured in small business at the Balcony Gift Shoppe, Niskayuna during the 1980s. She sold the business and became an administrative assistant to the Science Dept and Guidance Dept. at Niskayuna High School. She enjoyed working at the high school and helping the students with their college transcripts. Gail retired but went to work full time at the Edison Golf Club honing her skills as an amateur golfer. While there, she was able to Ace three holes in one and several tournament wins, many with her partner Judy Capuano. Gail enjoyed all of her friends at the Edison Club both in golf and her bridge groups and looked forward to the summer season. Gail enjoyed traveling with her husband, family and friends and enjoyed spending some of the winter in Florida. Gail had the honor of being a contestant of the original Price is Right where she was able to win kitchen appliances and a vacation to Florida. Gail was a former member of the Northeast Women's Golf Assoc. , the Edison Club Women's Golf Assoc. She was also on the Parents Board for the Center for Disability Services and a former member of the Niskayuna Secretarial Assoc. Gail's infectious smile and pleasant personality made her a friend to all she came in contact with. The family would like to thank all those who sent cards of get well wishes and prayers. It was truly overwhelming. The Comanzo Family would like to thank the medical staff of the Albany Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit. Their kindness and compassion brought comfort to Gail and her family during a most difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation under Gail's name to the Center for Disability Services Foundation, 314 South Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208 Relatives and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at the GLENVILLE FH VISITING Hours will be held Friday (Jan.18) 7-10 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville. Funeral services will be the following day, Saturday, January 19, at 10 AM where there will be a Mass of Christian Burial will at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha (formerly O.L. of Fatima) Church, 2216 Rosa Rd. With Rev. Bob Longobucca, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
