Obituary of Sylvia A. Pyne
Sylvia A. Pyne, 75, of Clifton Park, passed away peacefully in the arms of her family on June 19, 2016 at Mary’s Haven in Saratoga Springs. Born and raised in Auburn, NY she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Daloia) Serchia.
Sylvia was a 1958 graduate of Mount Carmel High School, and received an Associates Degree from Auburn Community College. In 1965 Sylvia married her beloved husband, the late David T. Pyne. They settled in Glenville in 1971, where they raised their family. Generous with her time and talent, Sylvia was involved in PTA, Mayfair Women’s Club, taught students to sew and was a religious education teacher. Sylvia was a loving, high energy, devoted and creative mother and grandmother who found joy in preparing marvelous meals for family gatherings in her warm, welcoming home. Sylvia worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for several organizations and was employed by VNSA for 20 years. In 2001, Sylvia moved to Clifton Park where she was a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor.
Proud of her Italian heritage, one of Sylvia’s most cherished adventures was finally traveling to Italy in 2011 to meet her large, extended family. She was a lively person who enjoyed vacations with her wonderful friends, especially to the Jersey Shore. Sylvia was a lifelong bridge player, and more recently learned to play Mahjong. Equipped with a quick wit, she had a knack for telling stories and making people laugh. Sylvia never missed Saturday morning coffee with “the ladies”, was a self- taught piano player, often was the first one on the dance floor, and never turned down a good margarita.
Sylvia is survived by her children Mary E. Dedon (Bruce) of Burnt Hills, and David T. Pyne (Colleen) of Ellington CT. She was the loving Nana to Ian, Aaron, Nathan, Daniel, Margaret and Nico. She leaves behind sisters Yolanda Malandruccolo Gentile (Max) and Carol Cefaratti (Phil) both of Auburn, many dear nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Sylvia was also predeceased by her brother Anthony Serchia, and her dear niece, Kristen Elizabeth Altongy.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, June 28th at the Glenville Funeral Home, located at 9 Glenridge Road in Glenville, NY.
