Obituary of Barbara Kinkead
Barbara F. Kinkead (Nee: Drake), 90, of Round Lake passed away June 23, 2016 at Saratoga Hospital after a short illness. Born on December 25, 1925 in Ithaca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Madeline Drake. Barbara grew up in Ithaca and graduated Ithaca High School. She then pursued a nursing career studying four years in Philadelphia PA. She was a M.A.S.H. nurse army lieutenant stationed in Korea during the war, '51-'53.
A bonus was she met her husband, Robert Kinkead who was recovering from wounds sustained in combat. The couple married in Denver, CO and moved to South Pasadena, California in 1957 with small children. The Kinkeads moved to Round Lake in 1988. Barbara continued to work at various convelescent homes. Shewas a longtime Red Cross volunteer and was involved locally with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed needlework, reading novels and most importantly being with her family. Barbara especially enjoyed the many summer picnics spent with loved ones.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Robert B. Kinkead, her sons Robert C. (Nancy) Kinkead of Round Lake and Dirk A. Kinkead of Ridgefield, CT and daughter Candia Lynn Kinkead of Round Lake. She leaves behind her brothers, Richard, Charles and Larry Drake; grandchildren: Kasandra and Danae Marie Kinkead and Nicholas and Alexandria Kinkead and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be private at the convenience of the family. Committal services with military honors to be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National
Cemetery. It is requested that memorials in Barbara's name be made to a charity of one's choosing.
