Obituary of James C. Barnes

James C. Barnes Sr., 87, lifelong resident of Glenville, passed away peacefully at his home August 6, 2016. Born in Scotia, he was the son of Forrest and Virginia Knowlton Barnes. Jim was a graduate of Scotia High School. He married the former Rita F. Lolik on September 5, 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from '52-'54 where he was stationed in Germany. Jim took pride in his service of repairing tanks and big guns. Mr. Barnes was in the Glass business for over 50 years. He began with Arrow Glass in Schenectady then became co-owner of Spa Glass and Mirror located in Saratoga Springs. Jim enjoyed the outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, he was a member of the Hadley Hunting Club. Jim was a race car enthusiast, specifically with NASCAR. He was a member of Centre Glenville U.M. Church for many years. Besides his parents Jim was predeceased by his brother Forrest Barnes Jr. and Edith Norton. Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Rita Barnes; his sons, John (Jay) Barnes of Hadley, NY, Brian Barnes (Sharon) of Saratoga Springs and James Barnes Jr. (Sherry) of Glenville; his daughter-in-law Amanda Barnes of Edinburg and five grandchildren: Thomas Barnes, Jason, Brandi, Austin Barnes and Thomas (Justina) McNamara Calling hours will be on Wednesday (August 10) from 6-8pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Scotia-Glenville. Funeral services will be Thursday 11 am at Glenville Funeral Home followed with burial at Evergreen Memorial Park with military honors bestowed. Memorials may be made in James C.
