John Stewart, Jr.

Obituary of John Joseph Stewart, Jr.

John (Jack) Joseph Stewart, Jr., 84, set sail on his final voyage to join his band of angels on August 14, 2016 with his family by his side. Born in Scituate, Massachusetts (the Irish Riviera) he was the son of the late John Stewart Sr. and Gertrude Jones Stewart. After graduating from Scituate High School and receiving one of the first Francis Quimet scholarships awarded, he attended Harvard University for his Bachelor’s degree in physics and business. His love of the sea called to him enough to attend Officer Candidate School and embark on a 22 year career as a naval officer retiring in 1974 as a Lt. Commander at the naval base in Scotia, NY. Jack traveled the world and took part in tours in Korea, Vietnam, Nato and Washington DC. After retiring from the Navy, Jack worked at Schenectady Cable Vision as a manager for nearly twenty years. Jack loved his family, friends, growing vegetables, happy hour, and sports. He was an avid sports fan who loved rooting for the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, New England Patriots and Washington Redskins. His greatest joy was being with his family and enjoying the company of his friends. Jack is survived by his daughters Terry(Scott) Hudson, Laura (Ron) Jacobs and Amie Siatkowski and his brothers Robert (Linda) and Brian (Joanne). His cherished grandchildren Jonathon (Emma) Siatkowski, Kristen (Michael) Mazzanoble, Travis (Cheryl) Hudson, Devon Hudson, Jenesse and Danielle Kaitz; Beloved Great grandchildren Anthony and Addison Mazzanoble and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his longtime significant other, Trudy Gardner and his brother Walter Stewart, and his former wife Stephenie Stewart. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Schuyler Ridge for the loving care given to Jack over the past year, especially Theresa, Adam, John, Shannon, Jane, Amy and Rabbi Monte. Calling hours for Jack will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 9:30am to 11am at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville.
