Obituary of Rose Riggi
Rose Riggi, 93 of the Eddy Village Green and formerly of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully October 19, 2016. Born in Ballston Spa on January 16, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Louise Isabella Spensieri. Rose grew up in Ballston Spa and worked at the knitting mill prior to her marriage to Edward Riggi on August 28, 1949.
After their marriage, Rose and her husband Eddie owned Riggi's Deli on Nott Terrace in Schenectady, NY prior to moving to Campbell Road in Rotterdam, NY. From there she worked at the Mohonasen High School cafeteria and then was a devoted housewife and homemaker where she lived for over 40 years. Rose was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and St. Gabriel's Church.
She enjoyed bowling in her younger years. Gardening, sewing and crocheting were her hobbies. Rose was known by her family and friends as an excellent cook, with her specialty being homemade pasta, meatballs and sauce. Family was above and beyond her most significant passion in life. Her husband Edward passed away in 1990. Rose was predeceased also by her sister Margaret Friello.
Survivors include her daughters, Rosemary (Kevin) Wheeler of Ballston Spa and Edwina (Douglas) Cath of Galway; her brother, Angelo (Anne) Spensieri of Galway; grandchildren: Kimberly (Adam) Rozek, Michael (Cristina) Wheeler, Louise (Herb) White and Jennifer Cath. Rose was blessed also with a legacy of 5 great grandchildren: Sienna and Michael Wheeler, Phoenix and Grayson Rozek, and Rosalie White. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Monday, October 24 at 8:15 am from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. followed at 9:30 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 178 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa with the Rev. Tom Kelly officiating. Calling hours 6-8pm Sunday (Oct. 23) at Glenville Funeral Home (glenvillefuneralhome.com). Interment will follow the mass at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenridge Rd. Glenville, NY.
