Obituary of Gertrude McLeod
Gertrude Z. McLeod, 95, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at the Baptist Health Center. Born in Niskayuna, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Julia Gagaghan Zenner. Gertrude was a lifelong area resident and was a 1939 graduate of St. Josephs Academy in Schenectady. She also attended Mildred Elley Secretarial School. Gertrude married her beloved, late husband John E. McLeod, Sr. in 1949. Gert had worked for John Hancock in Schenectady until she left to raise her family. Gertrude deeply enjoyed horseback riding from the time she was child into her adulthood. She also was an avid swimmer and enjoyed her daily swim for many years at the Y.M.C.A in Glenville. Gertrude was a gold master duplicate bridge player and won most matches. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and traveling. She will most be remembered for being a very generous women, being loyal to many friends and the love she had for her family and her faith.
Gertrude is survived by her sons John E. McLeod Jr and his wife Susan of Alplaus and Robert (Corinne) S. McLeod of Nampa, Idaho. Her grandson Ryan (Halhona) McLeod, nephews John L. Zenner, George (Karen) Zenner and James Zenner, niece June (Gary) Zenner – Marion as well as many great nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her husband John, she was predeceased by her brothers John J. Zenner and Joseph Zenner Jr.
Calling hours for Gertrude will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 11:00am from St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St, Schenectady. Interment will follow at St. Josephs Cemetery, Schenectady.
The family would like to thank the staff of Baptist Health for their outstanding care and compassion for Gertrude’s final leg of her journey home. The family would also like to thank Kingsway Manor, Mohawk Ambulance, Ellis Hospital Emergency Room, Schenectady Hospice and Dr. Audra Hanley for the care shown to her as well.
