Obituary of Denis Gilbert Young

Denis passed away peacefully, at home, on Thursday, December 1 after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Gilbert and Mary (Chichester) Young. Denis grew up in Colonie, New York and was a graduate of South Colonie High School. Denis was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College and worked for the NYS Department of Environental Conservation as a land surveyor where he met his wife of 33 years, Janet (Roy). He received his Bachelor's of Science degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA and worked as a consulting engineer for Roy F. Weston, in Massachusetts before moving to Maine and worked for E.C. Jordan and Woodard & Curran. Upon his return to the area, Denis worked as a consulting engineer for Dunn Geoscience/Rust Environment & Infrastructure/EarthTech. He fulfilled his dream of being a teacher by receiving his master's degree from the College of Saint Rose and Walden University. He was currently a Technology teacher for the Shenendahowa Central School District. Denis was an active firefighter for the John McLane Hose Company, Rexford, NY before becoming a Fire Commissioner for the John McLane Hose Company, Rexford, NY. Denis had a gentle and patient nature. He was a devoted husband, and there was no one he was more proud of than his sons Sean and Colin. He was so proud that they both graduated from the Wentworth Institute of Technology like he did, and they both landed jobs in the Boston area. He raised them to be respectful and responsible young men. His family meant everything to him. Many wonderful memories with family and friends were shared in Cape Cod for many years. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan despite the fact that he took a lot of kidding by New York family and friends. He did not have biological brothers, but his childhood friends Bob LaRosa, Doug Day, and Tom Zelka were truly his brothers. They shared life's joys and sorrows together. Denis is survived by his wife, Janet (Roy); sons, Sean and Colin, and sister, Susan Young, brother/sister-in-laws, and several nieces, nephews. Funeral services for Denis will be held on Tuesday (Dec. 6) at 11 a.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville. Calling hours, Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenridge Rd., Glenville, NY.
