Obituary of Betty Jane Vedder

Betty Jane Vedder, 89, passed away at her daughter's home December 17, 2016 with her family at her side. She was born in Alplaus, the daughter of Walter Reeves and Minnie Elizabeth (Luke) Congdon. Betty graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. She was married on September 19, 1948 to William Vedder and raised her family in Alplaus. When the children were older she became a school librarian at Niskayuna High School. Betty Jane was a charter member of Alplaus Ladies Auxiliary, longtime Alplaus U.M. Church parishioner and the Scotia-Glenville Seniors. She traveled extensively with the "Happy Wanderers" and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Her favorite pastime was being a mom then later a grandmother. The Christmas season was always a favorite time of year for her to prepare holiday meals and her specialty baked goods. She is survived by her beloved husband William Vedder, her children: Daniel (Jaye) Vedder of Rocky Point, L.I., Gary (Meg) Vedder , Eric "Rick" (Cheryl) Vedder and Lorie (Paul) Esposito, all of Alplaus. Surviving also, a sister, Karen Bradt of New Berne, NC and grandchildren: Aubrie Szeli, Amelia George, Christian and Lee Michael Esposito, Kristine Vedder, Lea Sheward, Michelle Vedder-Drew, Matthew, Joshua, Katy and Kyle Vedder; Heather Burke, Brian Vedder and Hope Hyland; great grandchildren: Aiden, Jamie, Evie, Fynn and Beatrice. Funeral services will be Wednesday, (December 21st) at 2 pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Heckeler officiating. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service. A private burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Betty Jane's memory to the Alplaus Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 43, Alplaus, NY 12008.
