My sincere condolences to the Family and his many friends. ...Donnie befriended this 16 year old kid and showed me how to work on my '53 flathead Ford back in '59. He would be able to pick up the block and put it on the bench. No jack needed. ...RIP, my friend. ...

Dearest Donny
You were such a good friend and were always checking in to see if I was ok on my farm.
I wish now I had taken photos of you with my rescued horses and pig. They truly loved your
visits and the bundles of carrots and treats you would feed them. Your kind, gentle hand they never
feared. We will all miss you here, but now we have a very special man watching over us.
You will be missed by us all but never forgotten. Love Lori, Sunlight, Daisy May, Belle, Natty and Pricilla
my grumpy pig. You were the only man she never tried to bite. XXOO

Growing up visiting my Grandparents on Jay St, I use to sit and stare out the window in Awe of all the motorcycles coming and going at the SawMill.. I later grew up to be one of those bikers. Donnie Birch was a wonderful man and he will live on in the hearts of many, not to mention be missed by all. I am truly sorry to the family and to all those who he helped along his journey called life.

We met Don last September 2016 when our son, Brian, suddenly passed away. We had heard Brian speak of Don, The Saw Mill Tavern, the biker friends, etc. It wasn't until Brian's calling hours and celebration of life party we came to know what a special man Don was and how important he and the bikers were in Brian's life.
We were so thankful to be made aware of this.
Don and Brian worked together at Nova Bus. They became and remained friends over the many years. Don conveyed to us how much he thought of Brian and their friendship.
Don was a special person indeed. He offered to do a celebration of life party at the Tavern and pick up all expenses. We had already put things in place for what we had planned. However, his generous offer was so appreciated. It came from the heart.
Don's family must be so proud of him. Our condolences to you all.

Some men are larger than life. There will never be another person like Don. He's one of those people who symbolize an idea and a generation. Work hard for what you want, have honor and pride, be strong, never give up, fight for those who can't. The world has lost a treasure. But he'll never be gone if people remember what he stood for, and try to also take a stand.
Don will be missed and remembered by me for the rest of my life.
I wish you, the family, peace during this difficult time

I've had the privilege of Dons friendship for 25 years. We shared many common friends and interests as well. All I can say is that he was probably one of the sincere and honest people I have ever known. He knew how to have fun but was equally concerned for others. A mans man. I spoke to him by phone just last week while he was in the hospital to share some sad news and he told me that he was not doing well himself and that he would most likely not be going home. As always he spoke the truth. I would imagine most readers of this will have similar stories. Don you will always remembered by myself and certainly many others as a friend. Please save me a spot in line for our next ride. Rest in peace my friend.

I had the pleasure of meeting Don almost 30 years ago. He was a big hulking man who had brought his motorcycle to my brothers' shop to get some work done on it. I had no idea he would ever leave such an impression on me. He had a smile and a big belly laugh that you knew was genuine and really from within that big frame of his.
When he started building buses for Nova my brother had told me that he was hiring people and that I should go and see him about a job, I was out of work and really needed a job. I called him up and he told me to come on up and talk to him. I had never worked on a bus before in my life but he gave me a chance. He immediately took a liking to me and from there our friendship grew. I'm sure my story isn't much different than a lot of other peoples, which shows you the kind of person Don really was. Over the years Don and I had formed a special bond, one which I will cherish for as long as I am alive. We would laugh together, we would argue with each other, and no matter which one we were doing, he would always smile with that big grin and say "Bob Terry you're the motherf'r" and he would give off one of those big belly laughs that would fill the whole place up. That is the Don Birch that I am going to remember.
It is with my deepest condolences that I give this story to his family, as he will be missed by me and so many other people who's lives he has touched. Don you were a very special person, and the old adage "that they must have broke the mold when they made him" never rang truer. May he rest in peace

Prayers and hugs to Donnie ' s family and many friends. He was a friend to all. Donnie opened his door and heart to anyone in need. I know he will be reunited with my father. My father worked with Donnie for years. They looked like brothers and were as close as brothers. Our community has lost a true friend and supporter of all.

You were always considered to be my 2nd Dad. I'll miss our phone calls, especially on Sundays (that was our day to talk about football - man you were ALWAYS against those Cowboys!). I've never known anyone with as big of a heart as yours! You were always there for me me while I was in the Hospital amongst countless other hard times. We had heart to heart talks as well as asked one another for advise. I LOVE YOU!
