Obituary of William C. Vedder

Mr. William C. Vedder, 89, passed away February 6, 2017 at home with his family at his side. Born in Schenectady on September 13, 1927 he was the only child of the late Charles and Nettie Senigo Vedder. A native of Burnt Hills, NY where he was raised on a farm, Bill was a graduate of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. He married the former Betty Jane Congdon on September 19,1948. Originally a dairy farmer, the couple moved to Alplaus in 1962 and Bill began to work for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation. He later became a foreman and chief gas mechanic for what later became National Grid where he worked 26 years. Bill was a life member of the Alplaus Volunteer Fire Department where he made many friends while serving his beloved community. He was also a member of the National Grid Quarter Century Club and a skilled player at BRIDGE, and approached master status. As an avid gardener he lovingly shared his abundance with family and friend. Bill was a responsible hunter and fisherman throughout his lifetime, taking great pride teaching the sport to his children whom he adored. Bill loved his grandchildren dearly, he was always an enthusiastic supporter of everything they did, especially playing sports. He was predeceased in December by his wife Betty Jane Vedder. Survivors include his children: sons, Daniel (Jaye) Vedder of Rocky Point L.I., Gary (Meg) Vedder, Eric "Rick" (Cheryl) Vedder and his daughter, Lorie (Paul) Esposito, all of Alplaus. Grandchildren: Aubrie Szeli, Amelia George, Christian and Lee Michael Esposito, Kristine Vedder, Lea Sheward, Michelle Vedder-Drew, Matthew, Joshua Katy and Kyle Vedder, Heather Burke, Brian Vedder and Hope Hyland; great grandchildren: Aiden, Jamie, Evie, Fynn and Beatrice. Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 11) at 11 am in the Glenville Funeral Home Chapel, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Heckeler officiating. A calling period will precede the service at 10 am. Burial will take place at Memory Gardens in Colonie under the direction of the Glenville Funeral Home (www.glenvillefuneralhome.com).
